Big Creek Cave Falls

A waterfall spitting out of a cave? Enough said.
This is a wonderful area to explore with the family. Not one, but two waterfalls from caves and another cave with a creek running from it. The trailhead is a locked gate that you walk around (don't worry, it's national park property) to follow the old road to the first creek crossing. After the creek you will enter a field. Look to the left and you will see an opening where trucks used to pass. Walk through the opening and go straight across another field. When you hit the tree line, across the field from the opening, follow to the right until you meet up with an abandoned road. Walk the road until you get to a junction. The right takes you down to the creek. The left will take you to an abandoned homestead littered with antique cars. The path straight ahead will lead you over a cattle guard and send you upstream to the main attraction.
A bit further and you will find another junction (none of these are marked). To the right you will cross over the creek and follow it downstream until you hear the waterfall. Follow the runoff to your left to find Big Creek Cave Falls. Sit and relax for a while before following the bluff north to find another cave, one that you can explore, with a creek running out of it. Once you've had enough playtime there, follow the stream from the cave to the main creek and head back upstream to the junction you left earlier. Hang a right back at the main trail to find another waterfall producing cave.

Getting there: From Pelsor, AR take HWY 7 North. a little over a mile north of the west HWY 16 cutoff look for NC6840 (every map I've looked at says CR 59) on east side of highway. It is a small gravel road that looks to be privately owned, but is not. Drive the gravel road about three miles and you'll see a cut off to the right (makes a "U" back to the road). Do not park on the road. (GPS: 35.876941, -93.158706 )
