Cub Lake Trail

Natchez Trace State Park

The Cub Lake Trail offers a variety of landscapes to enjoy.  The trail head starts you down a path with an assortment of hardwoods that slowly fade into an evergreen forest and then back again.  About half way through the trail you will find a creek crossing.  Don't worry about getting wet because there are two cables, running parallel with each other about 5' vertically apart, attached to a set of trees on each side of the creek.  These are perfect to walk across and keep your boots dry.  From there you will enter a swampy area, but again, don't fret!  There is a boardwalk to keep you out of the muck.  After the swamp you'll meet up with a gravel road that you need to follow around the backside of Cub Lake.  Take notice of the spillway dam that you can walk out on.  Shortly after the dam, the trail picks back up on the left.  Follow the trail around the lake until you meet a brick cabin.  Walk the paved roads that wind through the park with the cabins.  A curve here... a curve there...  and you should be able to spot the wooden walk bridge that will take you across the lake back to your car.  A great day hike for the family.  Kids shouldn't have a problem as long as they are tall enough to grab the top cable at the creek crossing.
