The Walls of Jericho

The trailhead (GPS: 34.9767136, -86.0809815) is on Skyline Dr just east of Hytop, AL.  There is a large parking area with a porta john and primitive sites.  The trail is well marked (red trailblaze) and maintained throughout with foot bridges to cross the two creeks in the valley.  The rocks are slick if it has rained at all, so be carefull when climbing to get to the waterfalls.

The Walls of Jericho are an extraordinary playground for explorers.  Prepare to be visualy overloaded when you enter the canyon and begin seeing the numerous waterfalls, unique rock feautres and steep canyon walls.

The trail itself (red trailblaze) is a bit over 3 miles with a steep elevation drop during the first 2 miles but is not without reward as you come across deep depressions and smaller runoffs along the way.  There are three camgrounds for backpackers, once in the valley, before and after the first footbridge and one past the second footbridge next to the old Clark cemetary.  The trail becomes a bit rough from there as you climb and descend the side of the bluff towering over the creek.  When the trail runs out, it's time to explore.  Boulder hop across the creek from the waterfall pouroff and continue heading upstream (dry, rock creek bed) past the cave with the waterfall to see the main attraction.
